When a girl takes up a place at the
school in Year 7 it is important that she settles smoothly
into her new environment and to help her do this she
will be allocated a sixth form 'friend' to help her.
The girls follow a broad and balanced curriculum, which
allows them to develop according to their own individual
strengths and skills. Each girl's progress is closely
monitored and she receives grades in each subject for
effort and attainment on a regular basis.

Entry at 11 is made up of girls from
our own preparatory school together with new entrants
from a broad range of local independent and maintained
schools and a small number of overseas students. There
are 3 forms in each year and classes are limited to
a maximum of 20 pupils.
|
All the girls follow a wide range of academically challenging
subjects, which extend well beyond the requirements
of the National Curriculum, are greater in scope and
stimulate intellectual curiosity. The pupils are grouped
according to their ability in most subjects, which allows
teaching to concentrate each individual's strengths
and weaknesses in a particular area. |

|

Expectations for each individual student
are high helping her to achieve her full potential.
Consistent with the aims of the school and the requirements
for Higher Education the programme of studies continues
to provide a broad and balanced curriculum. Specialisation
is deferred as long as possible to enable each girl
to develop fully according to her own individual strengths
and skills.

The
compulsory core subjects are:
English Language
English Literature
Religious Studies
Mathematics
A Modern Foreign Language (French, German or Spanish)
Science (Incorporating Physics, Chemistry and Biology)
In addition students may then select three further
subjects from the wide choice available. The subjects
on offer are Art, Drama, Fashion & Textiles, Food
Technology, French, Geography, German, History, ICT,
Latin, Music and Spanish.
All
girls are encouraged to participate in a wide range
of extra curricular activities
including Sport, Art, Debating, Music, Drama, and Duke
of Edinburgh Award Scheme. |
|

There is a dedicated EFL department for students for
whom English is not their first language. Tuition is integrated
into the school timetable and can be substituted for a modern language
module. This is a thriving department with its own dedicated study
area and integrated course programmes.
