Introduction- Head of Sixth Form
Mrs Janet Gardner.
The final two years of school life pass very quickly.
They are important not only as the stepping stone to
higher education, but are the years when many values
and beliefs take shape.
During these two years the Sixth Form at St Teresa's
provides a stable, supportive and welcoming environment
in which to make informed decisions about higher education
choice and to gain the necessary qualifications to achieve
each personal goal.

We are always very proud of the accomplishments of our Sixth Formers and intend
that they can look back on their time in the Sixth Form,
remembering not only the academic achievements but also
the experiences they have had and the friends they have
made.

Life in the Sixth Form is very different
from that in the rest of the school. Specialist A'level
teaching in very small groups allows individual attention
and the more mature approach which they will meet in
higher education. New relationships are developed with
staff as students learn to work more independently.
Sixth Formers are not required to wear school uniform
during the normal school day. Smart navy blue suits
are worn on formal occasions
The challenges faced by each student are
designed to prepare and equip her for the transition
from school to Higher Education and the workplace. The
Challenge of Management Conference, Young Enterprise
Scheme and Work Experience Week are just some of
the important events in the Sixth Form calendar. A number
of girls also take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award
Scheme, and the Voluntary Service Programme provides
a rewarding experience for the girls and a valuable
contribution to the local community.
|
Sixth
Form students also have a special responsibility for the younger
girls in the school and are valuable role models.

Academic Sixth Form Scholarships are available together with specific
awards for Music, Art, Sport, and Drama. The next scholarship examinations
will take place on 3rd December.
A'level study
The Sixth Form study programme is designed to fulfill all aspirations. Most students
will take four A/S levels in Year 12 and three A'levels in Year
13. In addition girls follow a General Studies Course leading to
the examination in the Summer.
